"THE AMERICAN" #1 AT THE BOX OFFICE

Assassin drama "The American" staring George Clooney took in 13-million dollars to earn top box office sales over Labor Day weekend.  Earnings were slightly above industry forecasts, but similar to his 2008 flop "Leatherheads" which pulled in a total of 31-million dollars before getting tossed from theaters.  Heist drama "Takers" slipped to number two with eleven-point-five million in ticket sales.  "Machete," "The Last Exorcism" and "Going the Distance" rounded out the top five.  This weekend marked the lowest-earning weekend for top 12 movies since the September 11th through 13th period last year.
