BRYAN CRANSTON HOSTING 'SNL': Three time Emmy-winner Bryan Cranston has landed a new job -- SNL host. The actor announced that he'll host the show on October second -- marking his first appearance on the program.

'AMERICAN IDOL' WRAPPING UP AUDTIONS IN L.A.: American Idol has announced that its final audition city for season ten will be Los Angeles. The Idol crew will be in L.A. on September 22nd to search for its next star. Executive producer Ken Warwick said, "This summer we have had an exceptional turnout -- both in the number of people auditioning and the level of their talent. Los Angeles has always delivered great talent, and so we feel it only fitting that we end our 10th season audition tour here in our home city." More info is available at americanidol.com

JANE LYNCH GUEST STARRING ON 'iCARLY': Jane Lynch will make a guest appearance on Nickelodeon's iCarly. On the September 11th episode, Carly will try to mediate a conflict between her friend and her friend's mother -- played by Lynch.

NATALIE PORTMAN GETTING OSCAR BUZZ: Natalie Portman is already earning Oscar buzz for her role in Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan. The film, which is "the talk of the town" at the Venice Film Festival, stars Portman as a "ballerina whose fiery passion for performing causes her to become mentally unhinged." The physically demanding role required daily five-hour training sessions -- as well as a lesbian love scene opposite Mila Kunis. The Hollywood Reporter commented that Portman "bravely ventured out of her comfort zone to play a character slowly losing sight of herself. It's a bravura performance."
